Camille Walala x Sol Lewitt INSPIRED

work hard 300

Inspired by graphic artist, Camille Walala and conceptual king Sol Lewitt: bold colors and geometric color-blocks for my Graduation nails! Having a private session w/ New York nail artist, Shelley Burns we decided to go with a multi colored design, because I honestly wasn’t sure what my wardrobe ‘look’ was going to be that day for graduation. Just knew all claws had to reflect fun and personality like the gal wearing it! lol

ART OVER CAUTION!

poison400Literally nails are to die for! A peculiar fashion trend that was established at Miss Uñas beauty parlour [Durango, Mexico]. Women are gluing, Centruroides Suffusus Scorpions to their nails! This is not your everyday salon procedure. If not added properly, victims can face death within 15 minutes!

This scorpion concept manicure was invented by, Lupita Garcia. She’s the official scorpion artisan and enthusiast. The baby scorpions are killed with bug spray before going anywhere near the manicurist table. Although these scorpions are less than a week old and is dead, they still remain highly venomous because the stingers are left attached and they are considered the second most venomous insect in Mexico.

More than a thousand people were killed in, northern Mexico by the deadly insects, in 2015. Lupita says, “I’ve been stung enough to know that the pain of the venom is very intense. It gives you a terrible headache, your nose begins to bleed, your tongue goes numb and your throat feels like it’s lined with fur. Most people think scorpions are to be feared, but I think they are animals of real beauty. I’m always innovating new ways to make art out of scorpions, and this manicure has been my biggest hit”, recounting her experience.

Women from all across, North America specifically has traveled to Lupita to  have baby scorpions fitted to their nails. Interesting trend! What are your thoughts on the women in Mexico? At a free charge, would you volunteer yourself to a Centruroides Suffusus Scorpions manicure?
